Simon Kjær interview about his contract renewal until 2024 with AC Milan

Interview: Sport Mediaset · 29 Oct 2021

In this interview Simon Kjær speaks about his contract renewal with AC Milan. On October 27, 2021 the contract of the Danish defender was extended until June 30, 2024.

Simon, first I’d like to ask you, I know it's fresh, what has the renewal meant for you and especially at this point in your career, what does Milan represent?

Kjær: “It was a dream for me to extend here. It is the team, the club that I have wanted to be for almost my entire career. And extending for another two years means that Milan is happy with the job I am doing and I am proud of that. ”

”It was a good sign for me as well, it is also a great compliment on the work I have done and on the hand I have given. But they know as well that I had a relaxing day the next day where I had a day off and then we continue to work again.”

Simon, when you arrived, basically, how to say, we use a term that is used in Italy, “usato sicuro”, a guarantee, but perhaps you arrived as someone who could give his contribution. But slowly, slowly you have gained more and more trust, ownership. Look, that's what I want to understand, have you changed too, do you consider Milan as a point of arrival for you, also in your life path?

Kjær: “In my opinion there are moments in football of more trust that the club and coach can give you, you can also give him the person behind. I have always looked for a club where this is played, here I have a good relationship with the coach. One that I trust, one that I can talk to. And I have always played my best football. And then obviously now I'm 32 years old, I have some experience, but I always have a good relationship with the coach.“

“And he trusts me and he knows that what I do is 100% for the part of the team. I know that I am an element of the team and if those next to me do not work, those in front of me, those behind me, I do not make a good impression. So I know that the most important thing is always the team and for a defender it must always be like this.“

“Then it is about really small things. Then obviously I have improved too. It is about growing and I have always had the mentality that I can improve, learn every day. The day I don't believe that, I have to stop playing.“
