Simon Kjær interview about Ireland - Denmark

Simon Kjær: "We played an awful game today. But results-wise, we got what we needed. It’s one of the things you could say is a trademark of what we’ve built up under team Åge and it’s fantastic that we’re going to the European Championship."

Simon Kjær explaining the concept of 'forfærdelig' at 0:11. "Vi spillede en forfærdelig fodbold kamp i dag" - We played an awful football game today.

As you said it wasn’t the best football game, with that analysis, what did you guys talk about in the locker room during the pause to get a little more control over it?

Simon Kjær: "Nah, I do think we were in part terrible on the ball today and played a crappy round of football, but, in principle, during the first half, with every move we had it in hand. So that’s also why we felt like we were in control. But we knew also that in the second half the game would change and we had to run several kilometers, felt more pressure - then come those coincidences in football..."

"We played an awful game today. But results-wise, we got what we needed."

- Simon Kjær, captain of Denmark

Simon Kjær: "They played some good football today with lots of energy. What irritates me is that we weren’t able to play ourselves out of it, football-wise. We had a lot of space on the field but we just couldn’t do it. On the other hand, you can’t complain about the work we put in and our morale and camaraderie is just as good as it always is. I feel secure about that and it’s a fantastic result so let’s just leave it at that."

Some will say that making chances to score and the flow in the play is perhaps one of the continuing issues in these qualifying rounds, that we have problems there, are you beginning to think that it’s an element we should improve on?

Simon Kjær: "No, I don’t think so and I don’t agree with that. I feel that many times we had control over the match and played really well. But it’s all about winning football matches, its about getting the results, and that’s something we’re super cynical about. So I don't really care how the hell the game looks in any case."

Yussuf Poulsen: "They’re almost done with the victory song, lets go!"
