Simon Kjaer arrived in Denmark for the European Championship qualifying matches. He spoke to the Danish press. The Danish captain explains that he is in optimal shape and ready to play. This what Simon Kjær said about his shape and about AC Milan.
"I feel that my body has perhaps never been in a better place than right now. I have trained continuously for 2.5 months without stopping, and I haven't been able to do that for eight years."
"All of my tests are better than before. If you play every three or four days, you lose muscle mass, but I've just been able to build on it."
Simon Kjær says about Pioli: "He's trying to give continuity to a new system, and at least I've got an explanation that I'm not playing. I have a good relationship with the coach, and he knows that I want to play."
"I feel fit and comfortable and I feel that I have proved it, but there is a coach who has to make some choices. You can sit down and get angry and offended about that, or you can use the time to train even more, respect the choice and support the team."
"I have kept myself ready to return home to the national team and to play again for AC Milan - because I will get to that at some point. I don't have to spend two, three, four or five games getting back into a rhythm because I haven't spent the time being mad about not playing. I have used the time to train even more."
- Simon Kjær, captain of the Danish national football team
"The national team is one of my greatest joys, and it is one of my greatest privileges. It is my driving force to celebrate my 12th birthday with the national team."
"Especially for Danes, this is a special place to be. It is a huge motivation for me that I can continue to offer something to the team and Denmark."
"Our journey with the fans has been fantastic, so it's really just about continuing."
- Simon Kjær
Simon Kjær says about Thomas Delaney and Yussuf Poulsen, who weren't selected by Kasper Hjulmand:
"After all, they all have to deliver, and then there is someone who sits and makes a decision. I am sorry that 'Del' and 'Yus' are
not included, because they are some that I have spent a lot of time with. But at the same time, I also know that I have a national coach who turns and turns every
little stone and is all over his head, in relation to thoughts about why he has made the choices he has."
"So I can also rest in the fact that it is not just a decision that was just made overnight. There is a reason,
but I can understand that they are disappointed. I'm sorry for them too, but it's part of the game sometimes, and I hope to see them again."
